I haven´t done something like this for a long time, so I thought I can bore you with a pointless picture of a planet.
I did do something different this time, First I used a stonetexture I found here on dA, its

Second, I did make the nebula with several scatterbrushes while having flow and opacity quite low (I used a mouse for this btw, no pen involved.
Also I pimped the planet a little with this method afterwards since it looked more like a marbleball... not sure if I succeeded (sp?)...
Anyways, here it goes. If you like to take this as a wallpaper, do it. If you hate it, well at least it was fun to make.

You might consider use some highresulotion textures for the planet because now the planet just looks like a smooth surface.
And I dont know if it is rendered clouds you've used in here but if it is, dont use them. Paint your own or consider using stock though it will make it look alot more awesome!
Anyway, keep it up and you'll get alot better
