I appreciate helpful critique by Chukkz I appreciate helpful critique by Chukkz
I created this as one half of a pair, one stamp saying "I appreciate helpful critique" while the other one is the opposite saying "No advanced critique please".

Now many will ask, why? There is a critique feature... read on plox. :p

I never felt that the critique feature is a great thing. The word minimum of 100 words puts me off, its not quality control in my eyes but makes people potentially write useless bull to fill it up. Also the star rating (Vision etc) leaves a bad taste in my mouth, it feels a lot like rating artwork in school. If you like it, fine! Thats nice and I am not gonna try to talk you into a different opininion, but I personally don't like the feature as it is.

Now, what made it so bad, dA removed the old critique guides everyone had. Remember? You could set your deviation to 3 different states: No crits, normal level critique and advanced critique encouraged.

This prove to be a bit of a problem, as now you can not sense if an artist you just stumbled upon likes you giving your helpful thoughts or if they (for one or the other reason) dislike this. Many people have personal reasons for this, others just know they are discouraged easily and others get mad at you... so thats why I came up with this, not only for yourself as an uploader but for potential commenters.

Use it to your hearts content!

I am not sure if unsubscribed people can use stamps in descriptions, but I know that subscribers can. If it does not work for you, I am sorry. :(

Above description appears in both deviations, thank you for reading. :)

To me when I give criticism to others work. I always put something positive at the end. Nothing as more important then to help your fellow artist.:) (Smile)

That is what my Critique is. I point out what is good about it, and I point out what I personally think could be better about it. It's amazing the amount of people who don't like that though and just want comments saying "OMG! YOUR WORK IS GREAT!" I would rather have one comment talking about my work in depth and telling me what to do to be better than hundreds of comments saying that it is great. How can you improve?

At the same time, I don't like when I see other people giving critique (or recieve it myself) where they are just being downright horrible. I have been party to a few one's myself where I am just looking and reading over it several times and going "what the hell is this? This isn't helpful critique really, this is slagging off everything I have done!" It's why I came off Young Writers Society after a few months.

Sorry, rabbited on there for a bit.

yes! this is exactly what critique should be! point out what was strong and should stay, and what can be improved/changed/possibly left out

I have mixed feelings about the critique feature. It is useful to some people but not to others. I have critique enabled on a few of my deviations but I haven't gotten a single one. And some people use it to give/recieve subscriber exclusive 100 word asskisses. It also puts me off when people mark 5 stars in every category. It kinda defeats the purpose of the critique by essentially saying that the work is flawless.

I do not mind if someone actually has something to say but I dislike this formatted feature... I am aware its meant to bring some transparency and that its meant to look important but I just do not know if a 100 word minimum is really a good thing. Sometimes you just do not have more to say then "The hips are off" (Yes that happened to me lol). What should someone fill up the thing with 96 more words? Also I dislike the school like rating system, what you find totally visionary can be totally dumb to me, same vice versa. I think art is something highly subjective and rating it like that is not possible.

Personally I wouldn't find the critique "the hips are off" to be very helpful. What's wrong with them? Are they too big? Too small? Too high? Too low? Misshapen?

Well yeah I oversimplified... it had more to it then that but still was FAR from 100 words. I just wanted to say that someone telling "This and this and this" is more helpful then writing an essay that just boils down to a single fact.

Yeah, I agree. Maybe the word limit should be 50, not 100

Yeah, if I take the time to read a piece, I usually also take take the time to critique. But then I worry that they might not WANT me to critique...

Nuja...

I think it's a great stamp. Here, on DA, it's quite hard to actually get some helpful critique... people usually say things like "your anatomy is bad", without pointing out the exact mistake and an advice how to make it better.

Well you can say its unfair or something... but I think the option is kinda dumb. Why not just write what you have to write when you get asked to do it.

Nope, they can't. Once I tried to do that when I did not have yet a subscription and it did not work
On the other hand, not-subscribed people can always add "plz emotes" into their comments, so if you can turn the stamp into a combined plz account, they will be able to add it ;)

Well. . . You can split images even with "Image Ready" (there's the same "crop" option that there is even in Photoshop), so the animation should not be ruined ;)

Hmmmm. . . Yeah :hmm:
Well, there could be another way: crop a little the sizes so that the hieght will be 50 pixels instead of 56, and then crop it in two; it won't have anymore the stamp edges, but at least you don't need to resize it ^^;
I know, it's a very desperate way X'DD
